Jessica Robertson Lip Gloss Review

Hello loves!

Finally sitting down to write this post, my apologies that it has taken SO long! Like my partner in crime, Danielle, I too was offered the chance at reviewing the Jessica Robertson Lip Gloss line, from Dr. Sun Rx.

Danielle said it amazingly, so I'll just echo her!  "The creators of Podz, and Dr. Sun Rx teamed up with Duck Dynasty's own Jessica Robertson to launch a selection of nourishing beauty products.  The lip gloss line features a rich and creamy formula to smooth your lips into the perfect pout."

You've probably seen Jessica Robertson on TV, she's a very fashionable mom and wife, on Duck Dynasty. I don't watch the show myself but I've seen her do several appearances on the TV circuit and she always looks stunning!

                                                 (Stock Picture from HERE)

Now, its only been in recent years that I've considered myself "girly"...Typically I find that I like being a bit more low maintenance.  That being said, I've ALWAYS loved lip gloss! I love the way it feels on and just brightens your face!  Even when I go more simplistic with my make up, I always use a great lip color!!

The typical collection features 6 colors, featured above! I was given Cherry Red, Cotton Candy and Nude for the purposes of this review.  At first glance I loved the fashionable wands and the shiny handle! It was comfortable in my hand and easy to find in my cavern of a purse...when I took the time to carry one ;)

TOP- NUDE
MIDDLE- CHERRY RED
BOTTOM- COTTON CANDY

Of the three colors I was given (seen above), my favorite was certainly the cherry red, because what is pinup modeling without a signature red lip? ;)  I do like them ALL though. I found that they apply very smoothly and I loved the moisturizing feel and pleasant smell!

Cherry Red has been my go to for days that I'm doing my signature pin up look.

I love the Nude for days that I want to go with more of a low key, fresh face look.  The colors above are very true to what you get, its a great color!  I did notice when I looked on the website, the nude color reads much lighter than what is shown here and what I received...just FYI. :)

The Cotton Candy is actually SO great to use as a cheek color!!  I put a few dabs on the apples of my cheeks after I've applied my moisturizer and foundation and then just use my clean fingertips to blend  out and upwards towards my temple, using a circular and swiping motion.  Such a fun way to get more than one use out of the lip gloss and I found it to be a PERFECT hue.   Plus I am not a fan of harsh blush looks so this just gives a hint of pink and makes your face look very natural ;)

My daughter being an ADORABLE model. She's wearing Cotton Candy! She loves when I let her wear my "Mate Up"

Like most lip glosses, I do find that they staying power could be a TAD better.  BUT with such a smooth application, reapplying is a breeze. I hate when you go to reapply a lipgloss and it is sticky or waxy. NONE of that mess here :)

You can purchase these lip glosses at pretty much any tanning salon near you, or through www.drsuncosmetics.com

If I were to purchase from the line, I would definitely love to try the lip gloss in Mocha or Berry!!  I'm also planning to try the Podz line at some point hopefully!!

xoxo,

Lindsey

Demi Lovato's Secret Color

I have been wanting to color my hair something FUN for years.  My hair naturally dark, dark brown (okay, and some gray, silver, GLITTER), most people mistake it for black.  When I started getting more glittery strands, and it got to be too much for me I started just dying it dark brown only to cover them up.  But I coveted all of those gorgeous colors I'd see.  I've been considering it, but I'm so afraid of bleaching my hair and to be honest with as fast as my hair grows, I'm just not sure I'm up for the never ending, far too frequent, upkeep.  It's all I can do to keep up with my glitter.

Enter, SECRET COLOR.  I wasn't ready for the commitment of dying my hair pink, but adding a pop of color with Demi Lovato's Secret Color?  I can do that!  Plus, I can switch out my color anytime I want in seconds.  It's SO easy!  You can choose from pink, red, purple, and blue.  You can wear them on their own, or even layer multiple colors.  They say to only layer two, but hey, be a rule breaker if you want.  I don't see why you couldn't do more other than the bands being more noticeable.

I forgot to take a picture of the hair itself before I excitedly put it in my hair.  So, I will have to come back and edit this later with one of those.  :D  It was interesting to unbox though. It comes in a protective hair net, but it was a little hard to get it out of the netting and it kept getting all tangled together.  Also, it kinda looks like a beard.  Like a crazy colored Santa Beard.  It made me laugh.

There are no clips or pins or picks to worry about placing correctly in your hair.  I don't know about you all but, clip in extensions have never worked for me.  My hair will just not hold a random pin on the underside where you can't see it.  I could use them in a ponytail or something like that, but not just with my hair down.  Secret Color is very brightly colored, and I feel like it's pretty natural feeling and looking, for fake hair anyway...the hair is attached to a thin, clear headband.

You simply place the headband on the top of your head, and then pull your hair through so the color peeks out from underneath.  You can vary how much hair you pull through (all of it, half of it, etc) to control how much color you see peek through, and whether you see most of it when you're looking at your face, and almost none from behind, or if you see quite a bit from behind/all around.  You can brush your hair with it in place to help mix it in as well.

The band is clear elastic, which does blend in but I think it blends better with lighter colored hair.  It also depends on the lighting.  In a very bright light, early morning sun in the picture below, there can be some reflection going on because it's shiny and that definitely makes it more noticeable.  I'm actually tempted to color mine to match my natural hair color except for a small bit at the top where my hair parts, but I will get to how I did manage to cover it up mostly in a minute.

I do wish they offered different size headbands, as my 9 year old daughter was very excited to see this come in the mail, but was disappointed that it was a tad too big for her head.  We could have pinned it down and made it work but she wasn't comfortable with it feeling loose and didn't want to try.  Perhaps another time she'll let me, because as I was playing with it in my own hair, and figuring out how best to keep the clear band from showing, I decided to loop my own hair around the band.  I've seen this done with other headbands before to create a beautiful look on it's own, but I didn't go to much trouble to do more than camouflage the band.  I imagine you could really create a stunning hairstyle though if you play around with it.  Anyway, I looped my own hair through it and not only did that mostly hide the band, but it anchors the band in place.  It's not moving from my head unless I want it to.  I didn't notice any slipping or moving around anyway, but it does feel more secure this way. A couple of criss crossed bobby pins are another option to secure it and keep hair covering where you want it to.

Another option if you simply do not want the band showing at all, is to just place another headband over it.  I love using hair scarves!  Another option would be to just put it under your bangs.  I didn't try that yet, but I will.  I imagine placing it under my bangs, and just pinning the sides up a little would make it nearly invisible.

The extensions are 14" long, so if your hair is very long these obviously won't reach to the bottom of your hair.  My hair is about 3-4" longer than the Secret Color but I still think it looks just fine.  You can cut these as well if your hair is shorter.  I barely feel them at all once I've got them in, they're not bulky or heavy and a plus to the headband being the size that it is, it has stretch to it if needed, but at least on my head, it's not at all tight so I don't think I'll have to ever worry about the dreaded "headband headache."

You CAN and should wash these, the packaging says every 5-7 times to wear them.  Just put them in a silk or basin full of lukewarm water and a bit of shampoo.  I'd probably use baby shampoo since it's more gentle.  You should also make sure to brush them out, but only when they are dry.

It is SO fast and easy to make a change!  You can even curl these or flat iron them (just don't exceed 300f), work them into a ponytail, or braid them into your hairstyles.  You could even ponytail or braid it before you put it in and then keep it to one side for just a chunky streak. It will take some trail and error to get styling with these right so the headband isn't glaringly obvious.  I haven't tried curling them yet, but I almost never curl my hair anyway so I like them straight.  I received a free sample of these to facilitate this review, but I'm SOLD.  I will be purchasing the other colors.  Hopefully in the future they'll expand the line, because I'd love an aqua/turquoise, or a lilac, maybe a pastel pink...  Or SILVER, ahhh I could totally do a Lily Munster thing with a silver!

My daughter said with the pink, I look like Draculaura!

If you think you might like to try these, you can get them directly from Secret Color for $19.99 plus $5.99 s&h (no matter how many you buy), they are sold at Walmart, and you can get them at Amazon (where, as Amazon goes, the price varies but seems to be lower than anywhere else, right now most are priced around $13, with Prime shipping!).

Water Color High Intensity Loose Eyeshadows

Featuring 5 brilliant shades, Osmosis Colour Mineral Cosmetics is proud to launch their line of Water Color High Intensity Loose Eyeshadows. Each shadow’s unique loose powder consistency is made from concentrated minerals bound around water molecules. When applied to the skin, these water molecules burst leaving only the minerals left with high pigments and heightened hydration. Each burst instantly adds a stroke of bold, shimmering color and dimension to eyes with build-able, jewel tone hues.

Just like the watercolors used to paint, the rich shades of these loose shadows can be applied in layers to add intensity; apply one layer to achieve a soft shimmer.

Pigments are designed to amplify eyes with a wet-looking finish that will not fade throughout the day. How many eye shadows can make a claim like that?  Infused with antioxidant-rich goji berry and green tea extracts, they hydrate, condition and protect your delicate eyelids.  Vitamins A, C and E further nourish by offering free-radical protection. The special formula also prevents creasing and caking.

I am smitten with the Pink Champagne, what a gorgeous color!

The can be purchased for $14.00 each from skintrends.com.  Happy shopping!

A girl always needs shoes right?

I'm not sure how long this promotion is running, but today at Payless you can get $10 off a $25 purchase with promo code 251479727

To make this deal even BETTER, you can also use promo code 251470985 for an additional 15% off your entire purchase!  Your total does need to be over $25 after the 15% off code to be able to use both.

Shipping is free if your total is over $25, or ship to store for free as well (I think you might have to be a member of their rewards program for this, but I'm not positive.  It's free to sign up, AND they'll send you a 20% off coupon when you do, so you may be able to use that instead of the 15% off if you're a new member.

Don't forget to go through Swagbucks if you use them (I recommend that you do!), to snag 3 Swagbucks for every dollar you spend.

It seems like it's working to place multiple orders, as well.  I placed two orders today, one for sneakers because I need to step up my workout game ($20 for two pairs!)... but my second order consisted of three pairs of totally pinup/rockabilly worthy shoes, and I will list some ideas to get you going... :)

Checkout the selection on the site too, no way I could list everything, and lots of pumps are on sale that would work great too, as well as several other oxfords I didn't list.  Prices listed are AFTER the 15% off, savings are even deeper with the $10 off 25!

Jessica Robertson Collection Lip Gloss

I love, love, LOVE trying new makeup and beauty products.  I love getting my girl on!  So, recently I was offered the chance to try a few items in the Jessica Robertson Collection, from Dr. Sun Rx.  I was instantly drawn to the lipgloss, because what pinup girl could EVER have too many lip colors to choose from?

Personally, I'm drawn to red, I really think it makes my blue eyes pop, but I like having pinks and nudes on hand too.

The creators of Podz, and Dr. Sun Rx teamed up with Duck Dynasty's own Jessica Robertson to launch a selection of nourishing beauty products.  The lip gloss line features a rich and creamy formula to smooth your lips into the perfect pout.

When I saw the color lineup for this collection, I just knew I had to try it out.  Plus, I don't watch a lot of Duck Dynasty, but whenever I've seen it, Jessica is just so polished and gorgeous, without being overdone.  I just had a feeling she wouldn't produce something she wouldn't wear herself.

The lip gloss collection features six colors, including:

Cherry Red
Berry
Nude
Peach Mango
Iced Mocha
Cotton Candy

I was excited to see the fun containers.  The lids to the wands are fit for a princess.  Definitely fun for a lady who likes a bit of bling!  Added bonus, the shiny silver caps make them VERY easy to find when I drop one in a bigger purse and have to hunt for it later.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the glosses are scented.  This took me right back to childhood and Bonne Bell and the like.  I don't know about you, but I find that a lot of lip products either don't smell like anything at all...or they just plain stink.  It's SO fun to find adult lip products that smell great!

The colors are strongly pigmented, but still hold true to being lipglosses.  Slightly sheer and great for layering to achieve a darker color if wanted.  I found that the colors mixed very well, so if I wanted my Nude a little more pink, layering and mixing with Cotton Candy or a little Peach Mango was a great option. I also liked applying them over long wearing lipsticks to soften them and add some shine.

There is a bit of a metallic shimmer to each color except for Cherry Red, and I don't notice it in the Nude either and it's very slight in the Peach Mango.  Cotton Candy seemed to have quite a bit and was a liiiiittle too much for my personal preferences.

I applied a quick swatch of each color to my hand.  I took one with flash and one without as I think that can sort of alter the color a bit, but they look nice both ways.  My absolute favorite is the Cherry Red, with Peach Mango coming in second, though I like them all.

Top to Bottom:  Cotton Candy, Ice Mocha, Peach Mango, Nude, Berry, Cherry Red

These glosses are super moisturizing, even just now when I wiped the swatches off my hand, you would think I'd just applied a good moisturizer...the top of my hand feels so soft!

My only complaint is that, as these are lipglosses, they do wear off somewhat quickly.  Of course, reapplying is a breeze and they do smell so nice.

The Jessica Robertson Collection Lip Gloss retails for $7 each.  You can purchase them at www.drsuncosmetics.com, or your local tanning salon.

Other items in the Jessica Robertson collection include:

A nail collection to compliment your lip gloss shades, in 16 brilliant hues.

American Love, a luscious daily moisturizer designed to calm and pamper your skin.  It features soothing aloe and is packed full of Vitamin D to support healthy collagen production and reduce inflammation.  A vanilla-citrus scent round the product out and makes it a scent-sationally relaxing way to pamper your skin.

American Babe, White Bronzers Self Tanning Solution, will help you achieve a healthy looking complexion with a rich gold glow.  It is formulated with green tea extract, known for it's anti-aging properties, and Ecoslim, which offers a way to help reduce cellulite.  The tan is long lasting, and develops naturally within 24-48 hours of application.

There are several other items in the collection, to include body care, cosmetics, and even sunglasses.

xoxo,

Danielle

*I received a sample of this product in return for my review, I was not paid for my opinion.

Pin Up on a Budget - Amazon

Hey, you gorgeous gals!

SO.  If you're like me, you don't have a ton of extra cash laying around.  I wish!  I'm a stay at home mom, and it's important for me to be able to stretch my dollars as far as they can go.

I do splurge on good quality pieces, like Pin Up Girl Clothing, now and then. I was able to snag a Heidi dress for 25% off last week, who could pass that up?  I'm saving up for my first Lindy Bop and can't decide if I want to try a skirt or a dress first.

I've been dressing with a pin-up, sometimes rockabilly kind of vibe for years now, but it's only been the past year or two that I've really gotten serious about expanding my own wardrobe and saying to heck with what anyone else thinks or wears, I'm wearing what I like, what I am comfortable in, and what makes me feel the best about myself.

So the search began...  and the search continues!  Of course, I love thrift stores and yard sales, but it can be tricky to find what you're looking for and it takes a lot of work to look through everything.

If you have any tips or must haves, please feel free to comment.  I'm always open to suggestions.  ;) For today, I thought I'd focus on one place, and perhaps start a bit of a series of sorts. Sound good?  I'll share a new place with great deals each time.

One of my favorite places to shop online is, of course, Amazon!  I know I've posted before that I do a lot of surveys and such and I earn a fair amount of Amazon gift cards, so...my Amazon wishlist may or may not be ohhhhh, about 400 items long at the moment.

Amazon has EVerYthing...and I've found some decent prices on pinup and rockabilly looks.

I've recently been very impressed with MUXXN.  Now, the quality is not on par with a $100 dress, but for the prices listed on Amazon right now, I feel they're more than fair.

Most items are under $40, and for a pinup style dress, you don't find that much. I feel like they're great starter pieces! I have purchased five of their dresses so far (though, one didn't work out for me so I returned it, and another wasn't quite the right fit, my size mistake, and I sold it), I'll have to take some photos of what I've got and do a bit of a review. The ever so lovely Lindsey Rae just wore the Retro Capshoulder Swing Dress in red to a Pinups for Patriots event and she looked SMASHING!

Another Amazon option, if you have Prime, especially, is Lindy Bop. Now, some of their items are a bit pricey, and I think their own website's selection is much better, but there is quite the treasure trove on Amazon and some great deals to be had. I've noticed several skirts for just $35.99, shipped with Prime!

As I don't own any Lindy Bop yet, I can't speak for the quality. However, I've heard nothing but fabulous things about them and I'd imagine you could expect more than you could from, say, MUXXN.

I've noticed some great retro inspired sunglasses, too. ZeroUV especially seems to have some great prices. Most are under $10!

I ordered a pair a few weeks ago (aaaaand subsequently lost them!)...so, I have another pair set to arrive in a day or two and I'm going to see if I can have my prescription put into them. I'm excited! It'll be my very first pair of prescription sunglasses.

Who is Lindsey Rae?

So, I've been wanting to post this for a while...this whole pin up thing? It's new for me.  I've always loved the pin up culture and felt at HOME in the style, make up and life. I love the body acceptance and individuality celebrated within the culture.

This journey started, for ME, because of my acceptance into Pinups for Patriots. #pfp, #pfppa

As I've been telling people about it, and attempting to recruit new members, I usually get a similar response from almost everyone. Everyone says how awesome it is, how fun it must be....but that they could never be a pinup....for various reasons.  They don't have the legs...or the body....they can't do hair...or makeup.

I'm here to tell you that, anyone can be a pinup and that its a state of mind, not necessarily a state of body!

I am not perfect by any means! My hair is a long unruly mess. My eyeliner is never perfect and usually smudged. I neeeeed to lose weight....but as this journey has begun...I've realized something...

Before I can expect others to accept me, I have to start accepting and loving myself!!!! Because if I can't love the way I look I obviously won't be able to accept others complimenting me. I need to get used to compliments. I need to get used to taking pictures with others and being in front of a camera again.

The only way I can do that is if it starts within MYSELF. So, without further ado...here I am.

Lindsey Rae. Wife, Mom to Two, Pinup Model, Blogger.

Mascara love!!

Hello, lovelies! Lindsey Rae here finallly getting a chance to blog!!! Huge thanks to my partner in crime for holding it down til I could get the chance to figure it out.

For my first post I decided to do a review of my favorite make up accessory EVER.  I'm not being reimbursed for this post whatsoever, I just love it THAT much.  I've never been the most confident person, especially when it comes to physical aspects about me.  But the one thing I do like are my eyes.  So it would make sense to highlight them, right?!?!

Maybelline's Great Lash mascara has been my GO TO mascara for as long as I can remember. It's easy to find with the vibrant pink and green colors, but beyond that it's affordable!

I have tried other, more expensive mascaras. They all promised the same things. Voluminous, gorgeous lashes. And while each may have had their own positive aspects, none could hold a candle to this one.

I love that it accentuates the lashes that I have, while also giving them a little more volume and color.  There are several different options in the great lash line. This one, "Lots of Lashes" is a dark black and the applicator brush is small enough that you can pay special attention to individual lash areas and get good coverage. I love that it separates the lashes and eliminates most clumping issues!!

Well, I need to make dinner, but I hope to be back soon with more about me, my family and my new pin up journey!!!

Be sure to tune in to Nature on PBS, April 8th, 15th, and 22nd, for a fascinating series on Nature's Animal Homes, where you will join ecologist Chris Morgan to investigate how animals build the spaces they call home sweet home.

I can't wait to check the series out with my children!  Perhaps we'll get some ideas for their upcoming Science Fair?  One of the available topics for their grade levels are animals and their habitats.  Perfect!

Body Fantasies NEW Sweet Berry Fantasy

I recently had the opportunity to sample Body Fantasies' newest addition to their Signature line, Sweet Berry Fantasy.

Fruity and feminine with just a hint of floral, this fragrance is flirtatious blend of fresh fruits and the seductive scent of peony.  Top notes include pink grapefruit, peach nectar, succulent red berries, and melon.  Mid notes include jasmine, lily of the valley, and candied rose.  Base notes of sweet musk, white amber, vanilla extract and sheer sandalwood round out this delectable fragrance.

It retails 8 oz for $6.99, and will be available in Winter 2015 at your local Walmart and drugstores. Just in time to stuff those Christmas stockings!  I do think this is a great fragrance for Spring though, and I'm very happy to have been able to add it to my fragrance rotation.

Other fragrances in the Signature line include:

Pink Vanilla Kiss Fantasy
Delectable juicy peach and berries open this fragrance, while soft florals round out the middle.  The base, comprised of woods and musk is beautifully crafted to create a feminine, fruity, gourmand experience.

Fresh White Musk
A blend of fresh clean natural scents.  Bright white florals with a mix of soft musks.

Japanese Cherry Blossom
Swirling petals from the Japanese Cherry Blossom tree inspire this romantic fragrance, full of desire and charm.  Long lasting blend of oriental notes transform into a feminine dry down of fresh cherry blossom, succulent rose, and seductive amber.

Pink Sweet Pea Fantasy
Blissful florals and sparkling fruits are masterly mingled and naturally long lasting.

Vanilla
Classic fragrance combining the clean scents of creamy vanilla, jasmine, fresh apples, and white musks.

Twilight Mist
Mesmerizing and mysterious.  Featuring notes of coconut, fresh plum, and mandarin.

I was able to sample the Sweet Berry Fantasy, along with Japanese Cherry Blossom, Vanilla, Twilight Mist, and Pink Sweet Pea Fantasy.  I love them ALL, though my definite favorite was the Sweet Berry Fantasy.  I'm so glad they've added it to their lineup.

Old fashioned fragrance tip:  Spritz a little on a cotton ball and tuck it into your bra!  Your chosen fragrance will have you smelling great all day without being too overpowering.

My daughters were delighted with these as well, especially my almost nine year old.  She says her favorite would have to be Twilight Mist, with Vanilla coming in as a close second.

I love that these body sprays are all under $10 for such a large size...they're so inexpensive that I can change up my scent based on my mood or the season easily.  I think next time I'm in Walmart I'll need to pick up a bottle of the Pink Vanilla Kiss Fantasy as that sounds absolutely lovely for Spring as well!  As you can tell I am so ready for sunshine and flowers!  I'll have to pick a few up for my daughters too, maybe for their Easter baskets!  I know they have several of their fragrances available in travel size minis, so that would be just perfect for the Easter Bunny to hop on by with!

Earn a Little Extra Cash

I have been doing surveys for years. I think I started when I was still in high school. It's something I can do a few minutes here and a few minutes there, on my own time.  I actually make enough to cover most gifts for holidays, though lately I keep splurging on cute retro style clothing for ME! :D

My most recent Amazon dress purchases, covered completely by Amazon gift cards I earned!  ChaCHING!

I get asked all the time what survey companies I use, so here are a couple that I work with:

YouData
Harris Poll Online
Que Opinas
IPSOS

I also highly recommend My Points.  You get points for surveys, and clicking emails.  You can also earn points from shopping through them, but I rarely do and still earn plenty!  If you would like a referral just drop a comment and I'm happy to send one!

And don't forget about Swagbucks!  Not only can you earn points for searching with them, but also for watching videos and completing surveys as well.  I allllmost have enough for a $25 gift card with them.  I can earn $50+  a month if I make sure to hit my daily goals each day.

Are there any that you have had good results with?  I'd love to hear about them!

PUG Memes

I am a huge fan of Pinup Girl Clothing.  They often have fun contests and right now, they're doing a meme contest.  Their top three favorites will win a gift certificate.  I hiiiiiighly doubt I'll win, but I had fun making a few!  This is the one I shared.

Check them out on Instagram, I was cracking up!  #pugmeme

My Inner Disney Nerd is Geeking Out

Eeep!  I saw the trailer when I went to see Into the Woods.  I'm excited to see this movie!  I love the idea of making movies based on areas of the Disney theme parks.
Director Brad Bird, and Producer Damon Lindelof participated in a Q&A earlier today on Facebook.  You can check it out here.
In theaters May 22nd!
